The Urban Taraxagum from Continental is the first series-produced bicycle tire made with dandelion rubber from Germany.
The tire combines a modern profile design with the latest technology and impresses with a coordinated race structure and pleasant damping at the same time – the right combination for everyday life in the city. The Urban is therefore a good choice for fixies, single speeds and commuter bikes. The tire made of Taraxagum is decorated all around with stylized dandelion plants on the side wall and proudly shows what it is made of. A black reflective strip blends in harmoniously and ensures lateral visibility when you roll through the city on the Urban.

The project is embedded in an overarching sustainability strategy that takes economic, ecological and social aspects into account. Significantly shorter distances between the regional growing areas and Continental’s European tire plants mean that logistics and transport costs can be reduced and resources used more sustainably. Vectran Breaker
Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fiber based on a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multifilament yarn. Spider silk as well as Vectran have an enormous tear resistance with the lowest weight. A higher puncture resistance and lower weight are the advantages of the Vectran breaker. Vectran is more cut resistant than aramid, five times stronger than steel and lighter than nylon thread without affecting rolling resistance. Thus, it offers the ideal protective layer for the tire.
